Coffee Adoption Fundraiser at Beck’s Coffee

Becks collage

So one of the fundraisers we have been very excited and looking forward for a couple months was the Coffee Fundraiser hosted by our friends at Beck’s Coffee, a local coffee roasting company here in town.

It was great! Ty and Ariana are so knowledgeable as far as the different roasts of beans and different blends and made for a very successful lesson for our friends and family who were able to attend and we really learned a lot that we didn’t know (and we would consider ourselves coffee snob-ish people). Music was provided by Helene and Frank from a local duo called “The Two of Us”. Overall a great event.

This is the type of fundraising events that we love! Fundraising in general is fun, and it can feel a little awkward at times because no one likes asking people for money, but when you can put an event together and have people benefit out of it…that is even better and it makes fundraising totally worth it and fun!

We were also very proud to share with those that showed up that we have raised about 20% of our overall adoption goal since we began raising money for adoption, which we still don’t know how that is even possible. When we began researching agencies and finding out the cost of adoption, the total goal seemed like something that scared us, like something we thought we might never reach, but now that we are in full gear in fundraising that total number seems less scary every day. We have faith and know that we will get there and that even though it will take work, it will make it completely worth it in the end and even though the road is still long, we are starting to see the (far) light at the end of the tunnel and we know that some day we will reach it.

Thank you so much for all your love and support so far, it is thanks to all of our friends and family that the road to adoption is becoming easier and easier each day!

Love,

12004678_10100900470477231_1804636084820409650_nI turned 30 on Sunday (September 13) and Danielle had a little plan to welcome me to a new decade of my life. Apparently she had been planning on throwing me a surprise birthday party since before we even got married.

Why wait until 30? When we got married I was 26, which had already passed that milestone of 25, so 30 made sense. All day I was thinking we were going to go out (this was Friday) and just celebrate very low key, but as I was leaving work she called me asking me if I could stop and pick up some Aleve, so I did (she was really trying buy time). I got home and saw party signs and heard a loud “SURPRISE!” from a group of our closest friends, and wow was I surprised?!

Married men, your wife is your best friend and your biggest supporter and mine is special, she is so caring and loving and just think of all the smallest details to make sure I am happy. I couldn’t really think of anyone better to go through life and parenthood with. It makes me sad when I see and hear of men that treat their wives terribly as if they were idiots and have no respect for them, because your wife is the person that God handpicked to walk along your side.

So far my 30s have started really great, and as I ponder what the next decade will be like (which I have no idea) I am happy that I get to do that (and many more) with my wife Danielle.

T-shirts are in!!

Our adoption T-shirts came in today! We are so proud to go out and about wearing them and sharing our message of adoption, and seeing all our friends and family that ordered one.

We used a company called Bonfire Funds and they were great working with us and making t-shirts is a great way to fund raise. If you or anyone you know would like to set a fund raiser for whatever it is that you are trying to raise money for (sports, schools, charity, adoption, missions, etc) you can do so clicking on this link. By doing so you will actually earn and extra $1 per t-shirt sold so it is worth checking out, and if you refer someone else then you will also get a little extra!

By this time next year

We had a crazy thought today: what if by this time next year we are parents already? I mean, how crazy (awesome) would that be?!

As we are in full fundraising mode (and planning our next ones), it is so incredible that in just a few months we are actually about a fifth of the way to reach our total adoption goal and have been so amazed at the love and support of family and friends!

Back to our thought for today, we really could be parents in a year! The Agency we are signed up for has us in a waiting list to be on the official list for a birth mom to pick us to adopt their baby, and while we were told on average that is about a year (or longer in some cases) process, that could totally happen.

Family and friends, we want nothing more than to be parents and can’t wait to do so and as the day draws closer we are just getting more and more exciting about when this day comes!

Love,

Luis & Danielle

I Love Fall!!

Today marks the first weekend of September. Aside from this month being a super busy month for Guerrero birthdays, September marks the beginning of fall!! Luis was a trooper and went with me to Hobby Lobby today to get some fall and Halloween decorations. I could live in that store, and am stoked to make this home our own! We bought a house at the end of last year (and moved the day after Christmas 2K14). In fact, we have moved the last 2 Decembers, so that has severely impacted my ability to decorate for the holidays. Decorating is a huge family tradition for me, and something that I learned from my mom.

Anyone who has met my mom can testify that her house IS the place to be for the holidays. She decorates for the fall and Christmas like no other. Luis says that it looks like Christmas exploded in her house. There is not a surface in that place that does not look like a winter wonderland. It was so much fun growing up in a home like that. We always felt holiday cheer, and it was always such a magical time of year. We decorate for fall in September, Halloween decorations in October, and then Christmas the day after Thanksgiving. It was something that my sister, mom, and I would do together every year, and some of my best memories come from decorating that house.

Luis and I decorated for Fall, and he was pretty excited about putting decorations in our forever home. We are slowly building up our seasonal collection, and feel so lucky to have a home to decorate. All of this seasonal talk got us thinking about our family, and the traditions that we have started to create, and the traditions that we want to have with our kids.

Luis and I grew up in very different families in different countries. We spoke different languages, and had different family traditions. One thing that we did have in common was we have moms that are amazing at making the holidays special for their kids. I am so excited to do the same for ours. We have talked at length about the special things that we want to do with and teach our children. We dream about Christmas Eve and Thanksgiving traditions, and are looking forward to trick or treating in our neighborhood. I cannot wait to have our kids be part of our holiday traditions.

Fall is a time to reflect on all that we have, and to be thankful for all of our blessings. For me, when I think of blessings I think of family. I sometimes cannot believe that I get to have the family that I do. I have been blessed beyond belief to have the amazing husband that I do, and am even grateful for the jerk cat. In spite of our difficulty with starting our family the way that we had intended, I am eternally grateful for this adoption journey. Like we have said before, adopting was never a back up plan. It is not something we have “settled for”. It is something we are eagerly working for, and know that our child is going to be our biggest blessing yet. Baby G, you have already made us the luckiest parents alive, and we cannot wait to bring you home!
